Official Website / The Wonders of the Younger out now

I am teaching a poetry lesson using the lyrics of Hey There Delilah. I was just wondering if anyone more familiar with the song than myself had any ideas to add about the meaning.

er, well, it's a pretty straightforward song; the lyrics explain it all.
but that's cool you're giving poetry lessons :)
All I know is that it may be one of the worst songs ever written
This song is far from being poetic, it sounds like a child wrote it. And as far as the music score is concerned, it came from a song by a 1967 band called The Rokes.
Maybe the song is good because it isn't deep? What ever you think, it's still a hit song, written in a great way - jsut my thoughts.
heya so im new to this site new girl ere joy wondering how u all doing??
I'm thinking you've already taught your lesson by now, but just in case, here's my two cents.
I don't think you were looking for a literal interpretation of what the song was about, but people's impressions on its meaning. Just because something seems obvious doesn't mean it is, and poets and songwriters often express themselves in ways that are not literal. Sometimes they do it unconsciously. In the same way, those of us listening to the song might take something different from it than the next guy, and this comes down to our own experiences. So, not knowing what age group you're teaching here, I can only tell you what I'd do. I'd focus on 3 D's that jumped out at me in this song. Distance, Disguise and Delilah. I'd have the students focus in on those words, see how they're used in the song and try to interpret what they might have meant to the songwriter, or what they get out of them. The name Delilah is an old one that is found as far back as the bible, referring to the voice as his disguise is a metaphor, distance is a recurring theme throughout the song--you could get a lot of discussion out of that alone. I hope this helps!
Hey there, I'm Delilah... My name is so controversial, please stop it... I know Tom before, we had fun but things didn't work out as what we've planned.... I know it sucks coz I do loved him and when I heard the song, all I can do was cry and regret.... You're happy now Tom?

Hi, the song is about a girl that Tom met and was crazy about, although they never dated Tom was inspired enough by her too write this song, it is completely fictional, as far as I know he made up the lyrics, the only part of the song that is true is that there really is a Delilah and Tom was crazy about her but she had a boy friend..... Good luck with your class, hope this helped.
is that really true???????????????i luv pwts song hey their delilah, but its not their best.
This is one of the most beautiful love songs I have ever heard. It's innocent, etheral, childlike simplicity transcends all.
I love the song, simple, acoustic, great!
